Ten Great Years of Golf

10 years of golf logo 2

  • Hooray! We’re still open and going strong after 10 years. We opened in 2007 just before the beginning of the most significant recession in recent memory.

  • We have not only stayed open but we have continued to improve the golf course with a great deal of attention to playability particularly in the wintertime. We fortunately have sand on site and are able to continue to improve the winter golf experience.

  • We have provided a great place to play for all of our local golfers, including the caddies and employees who work Bandon Dunes, as the greens and fairways are much more like the rest of the country and the wind is about half that on the coast.

  • We are a true heathland golf course. Many people are confused what kind of course that is unless they live in the United Kingdom or the Republic of Ireland. Heathland golf courses have many things in common with links courses as they have close proximity to the ocean, but are not directly on the ocean. They are typically built on sand just like their links cousins and have a tendency to have heather and gorse. The grasses are typically ryegrass and bentgrass instead of fescue and mercifully the wind is typically gentler. For good or ill we have some gorse but we try to reduce the spread. Gorse has been blamed for the town of Bandon burning twice.

  • In case anybody has forgotten our architect was Dan Hixson who has recently finished a gem in middle of the state called the Links at Sylvies Valley Ranch. It is an 18 hole facility that plays one direction one day and the opposite direction the next. He also designed the highly acclaimed Wine Valley in Washington and several great remodel projects.

  • Our tenth year is also bringing us a new clubhouse and events facility. It overlooks number 18 green, number 1 tees and fairway, the practice green, and upgraded wetlands that exceed even the Corps of Engineers expectations. The Cypress Room will be available not only for golf events and tournaments, but also for other events and weddings. It will have a wind protected deck area with wonderful views and the southern winter sun. Since our summer temperatures are about 70°, events can be held both in and out of doors, and will be protected from the wind, but indoor events can still take advantage of the views all year long.

  • We are celebrating our actual Anniversary date with an inaugural two day Women’s Tournament July 17 and 18, with another Anniversary Celebration set for September 15.

  • We are so grateful to the many golfers who call our course home, or who have visited just once, or come back time after time. Whether they come from the Oregon Valleys or across the ocean, they can all enjoy the beauty of the Oregon Coast, the great town of Bandon, and some great golf.NE View BC Clubhouse and Event Center
