Bandon Crossings Press Release

DATE:             July 4, 2007

Bandon Crossings, A New Golf Course in Bandon, Oregon

Bandon Crossings is a new 18 hole golf course in Bandon, Oregon, with preview rounds beginning July 18, 2007. Bandon Crossings utilizes the natural contours of the land, with its gentle rolling hills, picturesque creeks, wetlands crossings and lovely stands of coastal trees. The par 72 course, approximately 6900 yards in length, has a learning center with a driving range and practice green. The design makes the most out of this beautiful property, creating a memorable course that be compared favorably to others in the area.

Built to attract golfers who want a challenging 18-hole course, it will round out the offerings in the Bandon area, complementing but not competing directly with the other courses. Golfers who come for the Bandon Dunes experience will typically enjoy additional golf, and will have a memorable option at Bandon Crossings. Green fees for preview rounds are beginning at $70. Reduced rates for frequent players and locals are available with the purchase of the “Crossings Card”.

Bandon is already a world-renowned golfer’s destination, but has lacked a quality 18-hole golf course with an option for cart usage. Bandon Crossings has been built on a breath-taking 340 acre parcel on Highway 101, the major north-south coastal route, about 5 miles south of Bandon. A little over a mile from the Pacific Ocean, Bandon Crossings is built on former sand dunes and offers year round playability. It has a distinctly coastal feel yet is somewhat removed from direct coastal winds.

Oregonians Unite to Create a Challenging, Yet More Affordable Course in Bandon
Bandon Crossings Golf Course was the brainchild of Rex & Carla Smith of Eugene, Oregon.  After years spent at their vacation home in Bandon looking for challenging, yet affordable, 18-hole golf, these golf enthusiasts have taken on the challenge of creating the course they sought.  Their goal is that “The Crossings” become one of the must-golf offerings on the Southern Oregon coast.

The course was designed by Dan Hixson, a native Oregonian who grew up in a golfing family and spent several years as a Golf Professional at Columbia-Edgewater Country Club in Portland, Oregon before switching to the challenge of designing the kind of courses he wanted to play.

Construction was done by former local dairy farmer Tony Russell, who, with his crew, also worked his magic on all three of the Bandon Dunes Resort courses.
Course superintendent is Brant Hathorn, also a south coast native who was excited to return to his home turf from The Reserve in the Portland area to help create and then maintain a great new golf course.

Rounding out the team is Mark Fiore, Head Golf Professional, who came most recently from Aspen Lakes Golf Course in Sisters, Oregon. He has also been at Pumpkin Ridge in Oregon, and courses in California, Indiana, Colorado and Hawaii.
